Promotion of Health and Sanitation through Empowerment
of Minority Women |
 |
This program targets women and children in rural areas
of Rupandehi District. It focuses on women's empowerment
that would lead to better management of family health.
Majority of the beneficiaries belong to ethnic minority
who unfortunately missed chances of formal education at
the primary/secondary level. Thus, the activities also
include adult literacy training and maternal and child
health as well as personal hygiene.
They have formed groups under the UNDP-led participatory
district development project encouraging self-help income
generation activities and this promotional program was
designed to practically bring about synergic impacts from
both programs. |

Other Programs |
 |
| In Rupandehi, other programs are also being implemented.
Through either SCWH/AMDA Nepal, a day care center for
mentally retarded children is supported in their awareness
raising to help reduce social discrimination against them.
The center has initiated home visit program for the children
who are unable to come to the center daily due to geographic
and/or economic reasons.
Two scholarship programs have been administered in
collaboration with AMDA Nepal. One is called Shinohara
Scholarship that is awarded to medical personnel who
work at AMDA's projects. The other is called Hiro Mori
Scholarship that is awarded mainly to female students
who study at AMDA Human Resource Development Center
in Damak who are from among specific socioeconomic groups
but competent and industrious. With additional support
from Ms. Miyako Noda, additional candidates including
male students have been accepted and are studying under
this grant scheme.
Apart from the above, various major programs such as
primary health care and referral services for Bhutanese
refugees, prevention of HIV/AIDS and STI, and management
of medical institutes are successfully carried out by
AMDA Nepal. |
